Major shakeup at Texas looming thanks to Applewhite?

08:13 AM ET 02.05 | The recruiting loss of Dontre Wilson pales in comparison to what may be heading Texas' way in Austin. A president may be toppled before the shaking stops. But, for now, here's what we know for sure: The women's track coach is out and a football coach is under fire, each guilty of improper sexual conduct. Major Applewhite will never be head football coach at Texas. And maybe this too: Mack Brown and DeLoss Dodds occupy the most precarious positions of their long, distinguished tenures. In order to understand how this all developed so suddenly, you could start last month with the forced resignation of Bev Kearney, the former track coach, who admitted having a consensual, year-long relationship with one of her athletes in the early 2000s.

Assistants aren't allowed to have sexual daliances. That's only permitted for head coaches (c/r Bobby Petrino, Mike DuBose, and Mike Price)

All of whom were fired, BTW.

Although in DuBose's case going 3-8 in 2000 probably sealed his fate more than the affair.

I'm too lazy to do the research. How does the firing of one coach and disciplining of another lead to the president (I assume of UTx, because as far as I know, The President is not involved) being toppled? Any of you Texas guys care to explain, or are you all hanging out in Lubbock? ;-)

Nice to see the producers of "As the toilet water turns" have finally left South Bend.
Look out Texas fans, Dr Phil is coming to town.

I'm no Texican, but I'll take a stab at an answer.

All of these things transpired in the past. The former women's track coach has engaged an attorney to fight her dismissal. He's pulling out records of previous employee-student dalliances and making them public as a tactic. He wishes to establish persception of unequal treatment amidst the public. He wants bucks, some for his client and as many for him & his firm as possible.

Meanwhile, the revelations have UTx under a microscope of accountability. In light of the recent consequences at PSU for failure to stop sexual abuse on campus, actions must be taken. Sacrifices must be made. Heads will roll. Those at the top during the time of perceived inequal treatement for sexual misconduct will be cast out. Purification will be declared a success and UTx restored to "honor."

BTW, Lubbock is soooo over. The scene is now in College Station. Stock yards are out. Sheep pens are in.

For the record, I don't "get" Texas hip, cowboy chic, or anything like that. I can recognize herd/flocking behavior.

pretty accurate

The big diff between the 2 coaches is that Major reported right away, and took the punishment handed down by the admin - suspended pay, not getting the OC promotion he was promised and counseling. Bev denied the relationship and lied about some of the particulars. She is suspended waiting out all the legal bs, who as you stated wanted to make the Major issue public.

The BOR is pissssed that this the 3rd coach that has had some kind of sexual issue, and wants DeLoss to make everyone more accountable.

The Pres, Powers, is involved in other issues; namely wanting to raise tuition and remove the state mandated auto acceptance of top 7% HS grads. Some HS's in Texas have such low standards that their valedictorian wouldn't finish top 50% at Southlake Carroll or Highland Park, or the high level private schools. This has pisssed off the gov, good ole aggy himself, morrroon Rick Perry, who is trying to get Powers fired.

Major won't get fired, because he followed the guidelines setup for reporting. The others did or will, because they lied about it or had the other party file a claim. If he is let go, it will be because he gets grilled by recruiting parents about his dalliance.

...and not to go on, but thought you might enjoy this read, given your incredible intellect. It has 3 different articles about the fighting between the Pres of UT, the Gov and the BORs...
