08:14 AM ET 02.05 | The recruiting game isn't cheap, though at the University of Alabama spending on recruiting expenses was down in 2011-12. Still, $930,997 spent on football again exceeded what Alabama paid to recruit all of its athletes only five years earlier ($857,670) in the final season before Nick Saban arrived. ... Football accounted for 52 percent of all of Alabama's recruiting expenses last year, down from 56 percent in 2010-11. ... Auburn spent $950,378 on football recruiting in 2010-11, accounting for 45 percent of the athletics department's recruiting expenses. Alabama and Auburn were No. 2 and 3, respectively, in football recruiting costs among public schools in 2010-11, behind Tennessee ($1.5 million), according to a 2012 article by ESPN.com.

Hey brotha, I guess your prediction of Saban to the pros has to wait one more year, huh?

February 5, 2013  09:32 AM ET

I guess you have to look at increase of revenues and increase of net profit.

This is why Saban had to leave the NFL. He just couldn't work with a salary cap.

He'll never go back to the pros. His crybaby nonsense doesn't work up there.

How much did they spend installing that new deer holding compound?

I heard Christopher Key, the SWATS co-owner, gave $800,000 thousand to Bama's recruiting program!!!! :-)

It does come down to bottom line. As long as a team is winning, money spent or grades are secondary.

Bro, I'm sorry to say I agree with you, but that is the way it is!!!! :-)

And a couple of national championships to boot...

piratey, I will probably open a big can of worms with this, but I'm going to post it anyway!! "Why is this Christopher Key, the SWATS co-owner story a NON-issue, very little reaction from the news media, but Manti Te'o is a villain on par with Al Capone!!! Because this happened at an S-E-C school and NOT Notre Dame. And of course, S-E-C schools do NO wrong, ever. Also a player was caught with a hand gun at College Station and we hear very little about that story. Something is very wrong here!!!!!
