08:17 AM ET 02.05 | Edmonton's No. 29 ranking in the faceoff circle isn't likely to improve any time soon. Not without Shawn Horcoff, who left Monday's game with a broken knuckle, and Eric Belanger, who is out for at least a week with two broken toes. The Oilers are sitting with a percentage of 45.3, marginally better than the 42.5 percent posted by the last place Buffalo Sabres, but considerably lower than the first place Boston Bruins (59.4). ... Belanger, who has taken 112 draws, was clicking at 52.7 per cent through his first eight games. Horcoff, with 102 draws, has a win per cent of 52 per cent. "That's a big hole we have to fill," said Ryan Smyth, who saw some spot duty at centre after Horcoff left the game.

"That's a big hole we have to fill," said Ryan Smyth."
Ryan would probably win more faceoffs if he wasn't scanning the Edmonton crowd for talent.

As long as the Oilers D and their 3rd and 4th lines are populated by cream puffs, they'll continue to get smacked around. True, some of the injuries (like the two mentioned above) happen just because that's hockey but, too many are the result of the Oilers not being big enough/tough enough/strong enough throughout their lineup. They have a lot of skill and great wheels but, teams continue to take runs at them. The kids need a better supporting cast. Without it, they're going nowhere.

Filled with cheese cream!!
Seriously though, it tells you a lot about the team's make up when your toughest guy is a dude from Finland named Hartikainen.

I agree with most of that. If the Oilers want to compete during the season and have any success in the playoffs they have to get bigger tougher and have an edge to their game. Their lack of size really shows up along the boards where they never win the battle for the puck. They have no one in the system to fill the size need so a trade is what they have to do.

Or one of the mooses trained to mix concrete and sign complicated insurance forms? (best credits in movie history by the way)

boy oh boy, I try to make a literary reference, and gets removed. Is it my fault that an ancient Greek enemy happens to have the same name as a well known product used by men to prevent accidents?
