Matt Carle returns to Philadelphia as member of Lightning

03:34 PM ET 02.05 | Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Matt Carle will be returning to Philadelphia for the first time since signing a six-year, $33 million contract with the Lightning this offseason. Carle spent four years in Philadelphia and was a prominent part of the team's defense corps, acting as the primary partner of Chris Pronger. Carle was a capable puck-moving defenseman who ate up a large chunk of minutes. With Carle gone, the Flyers defense corps is left with plenty of holes. In Tampa Bay, head coach Guy Boucher stated that Carle is a larger reason why the team has opened to the impressive start that they have.

They never should have let this guy go. Time will tell if Bourdon and Gustavsson will be able to play in the bigs, but for now Carle is missed.
