Is it over for Cards Carpenter?

Indeed - I have loved his contribution through the years. Sorry to see him have to potentially leave in this manner - but as you said... Go lift your children....

I will never forget the deciding game of the NLDS in 2011.... 3 hit shutout.... What an effort...

He came up big in some very important games. Unfortunate that his career ends this way.

He pushed hard to come back early - and I think this time - it cost him... But won't begrudge the effort...

Absolutely correct. Big game pitcher that always gave the effort, even as he struggled with injury at times.

Of a few "tough as nails" competitors I really liked (go figure). Always gave his best, even when he was off during a game. Would tough it out... Try to keep the team in the game.... Man I love watching him pitch.....

I don't know that he pushed. It sounds like the problem isn't correctable. Sometimes nerve damage is permanent.

ANd true - it just may be permanent.... But hope not "permanent" to the point that he can't lift his kids...

Carp is done...

He is 37 and is now looking at back to back years being injured and has been injured often during his career.

StL needs to take his dough, since insurance will cover it and either trade for another arm, or invest money into Lohse and bring along the young pitchers...

According to Mo at the news conference yesterday, they told Miller, Rosie, Lynn and Kelly to come to spring training "ready to start".

They won't be going after Lohse

Unless they see something in the youth that is better, then so be it but Kyle is a solid arm and would be #2 or #3 behind Wainright and Lynn.

I only hope Carpenter hasn't caused himself serious issues for the rest of his life. We'll miss him, but he needs to be done before he cripples himself. Thanks and good luck with the rest of your life. I'm assuming there will be a job somewhere in the Cardinals organization.

I'm only repeating what Mo said in the news conference yesterday. He was asked directly about it

I've never seen a Boras client sign "on the cheap". I've got nothing against Lohse - with the young pitching the team has ready, I just don't see them spending a ton of money on any pitcher

Lohse has signed on the cheap before. That's how we got him in the first place. I think the Cardinals will go with the youngsters and wait for someone else to sign Lohse so they can get their draft pick.

Anyone know if there's a drop dead date where the Cardinals no longer get the pick if the season starts?

He can leave the game with his head held high.
