A.J. Jenkins will work out with Colin Kaepernick, hopes for big sophomore season

01:20 PM ET 02.06 | One of the few positions that cannot be called a strength headed into the offseason for the San Francisco 49ers is wide receiver. The Niners have one terrific weapon in Michael Crabtree, but beyond that everything becomes clouded quickly. Mario Manningham is on the roster, but he and Kyle Williams are both working their way back from torn ACL injuries. Randy Moss and Ted Ginn Jr. are both set to become free agents, with Moss likely to leave and Ginn's situation unknown. That leaves A.J. Jenkins, last year's first-round draft pick who failed to make a single catch. The big-bodied receiver out of Illinois was a disappointment as a rookie, failing to make any kind of impact on a team that continues to blossom. Jenkins has vowed that things will be different now, as he plans to work out with Colin Kaepernick in the offseason, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Smart move by the kid, though. Come next season there should be some good chemistry there.

Considering he can increase his production by 100% if he makes 1 catch I'd say he stands a good chance of having a "big sophomore season".

When a receiver doesn't make one catch his rookie season, is it possible to have a sophomore slump?

Indeed. I'm interested in seeing if Moss continues to play for SF or convince Belichick for another chance at NE.

Good question. He is the best receiver who has ever played the game after all.

Actually, not true. If you make 1 catch in year 1, and 2 catches in Year 2, then:
(Year 2-Year 1) / Year 1 = (2-1)/1 = 1/1 = 100% improvement.
If you make ZERO catches in Year 1, and 1 catch in Year 2, then:
(Year 2-Year 1) / Year 1 = (1-0)/0 = 1/0 = INFINITE (or undefined) improvement!
If you're his agent, go for infinite!
