12:48 PM ET 02.06 | San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said it's time for his coaches and players to take a break after an exhausting 2012 season, but he also knows this offseason will be critical for his team. Harbaugh said at his season-ending press conference that he expects an even bigger target on his team's back next year. "The biggest issue is, going forward, we've had a lot of success here," he said. "We're going to have a bigger target. Teams in the division are going to draft and study us. They want to beat us. Continuing to improve. That's our formula."

Wait a minute... Am I sensing some sort of pitty party in FN for all this 49'er love ?

Don't teams want to beat all other teams? Yeah, if you beat the Niners or the Ravens, you can brag about it, but it's embarrassing to lose to the Jets or the Jags.

So getting to the NFC Championship game last season wasn't enough to make teams want to beat the 49ers more in Jim's book. Oh...OK.

They want to beat you to the ground and your team in the game!!!

Really dumb comment; of course they want to beat the 49ers, and every other team they play!

Still spinning from getting his ass handed to him by his older brother. Gotta sting!

February 6, 2013  02:19 PM ET

I think what he meant to say was teams wanted to beat them by adapting and improving on their product: the way they play, the way they draft, the way they're organized. Either that or it was an idiot comment.

February 6, 2013  02:31 PM ET

It was one comment in many, but it's being singled out and it looks a little stranger that way. But he's not wrong. Teams are studying what they've done to turn things around so fast and so well. Of course they are. They'd be stupid not to. It's really just not a story. How shocking to find it here. How very, very shocking. </sarcasm>

You play to win the game...
