Kirk Cousins ready to lead Redskins this offseason

03:02 PM ET 02.06 | Kirk Cousins isn't the starting quarterback of the Washington Redskins, but he'll have to act like it this offseason, while Robert Griffin III recovers from offseason reconstructive knee surgery. Cousins will be tasked with leading the Redskins throughout offseason workouts while Griffin III rehabilitates his knee, hoping to be healthy for Week 1. Still, there's no guarantee Griffin III will open the season healthy, and Cousins could be tasked with leading the Redskins for the first few weeks of the 2013 NFL season. Consequently, Cousins is working on becoming not only a better quarterback this offseason, but a better leader as well. "Now, in terms of my presence in the locker room and that kind of a thing, I'll probably try to be a little more vocal so that I don't come across to my teammates as somebody who's afraid of that role or not comfortable in that role," Cousins said. "It'll be an interesting balance to have to walk because obviously I don't want to step on anybody's toes, but I also need to be ready if called upon."

Cousins will want to be traded if RGIII is the starter next season.

Maybe but he'll still be on his rookie contract so they can afford to keep both for a while.

I was one. Cousins has proven capable, but I still have to wonder could RGIII stay healthier if we drafted a OL instead.

A guy can't demand a trade after 1 start.

Yeah, he should wait until he's got at least 2 starts and then he could be released like Matt Flynn to go sit on someone else's bench.

Actually, Cousins's performance was pretty good. I think the Redskins got a pretty good guy. And, I think they'll need him. He could be the starter in week 1.

5 starts and FN will say he has his eyes on Joe Flacco's contract.

The man lit it up, and took about 75% of the snaps last pre-season.
