No. 1 RB recruit will compete for time at Michigan

08:18 AM ET 02.07 | Signing day in Ann Arbor dawned with four-star defensive tackle Henry Poggi tweeting his allegiance by way of pajamas, and finished as a success in the eyes of the scouting services. Brady Hoke, like most coaches, puts little stock in that ranking. He's more concerned about the type of player Michigan recruits. He wants maulers, and he wants them up and down the lineup. That's how he sees Michigan competing for national championships -- and he thinks he has those pieces. ... The star is Derrick Green, the country's No. 1 tailback who Jackson said will compete for time right away. "There were some things that we went through last year that cost us in some situations in games, and hopefully we rectified that," [Fred Jackson] said.

This kid appears to be a stud but they will need stability and strong play at the QB position (IMO they didn't have it with Robinson last year) in order to take full advantage of Green's abilities...

Gariboy, lost in the conversation is RB Deveon Smith from Ohio that Michigan landed as well. Smith is arguably the best RB out of Ohio this year. He will also be part of the equation and the idea of a Smith Green backfield should give you and opposing teams the shivers. Michigan really killed it in this class in almost every area. The only place where there might be some issues is at WR. Michigan brought in some good raw talent and hopefully Da'Mario Jones, Csont'e York and Jaron Dukes will prove that they can be stellar wide outs.

No doubt UM has a great incoming class (so do my beloved Fighting Irish) but it is unlikely Shane Morris will have an impact in 2013 and I am not convinced Devin Gardner is the type of QB that will flourish in the "pro style" offense that Hoke is trying to introduce. Robinson struggled with it (despite being an amazing athlete and really being a thorn in ND's side the two previous years). I might be wrong but I think UM is still a year away from potentially great things...

Yeah, he may be the #1 rb in some services, but Gary Pinkel rated him out lower than his 3 star RBs.
Logan Tully Tillman was a good p/u for Michigan.

Are you confused about which thread you're posting to? Need more coffee?

No, I was making a joke at Gary Pinkel's expense that he must not have had Derrick Green highly rated compared to his own RB recruits.

Isn't this somewhat of an Oxy moron?
Not sure how you can judge someone who has started five games.
Forgot to mention he had 11 TDs, 5 INTs and a 162 QB efficiency rating. IN 5 GAMES!!
Your boy Golson, 12 TDs, 6 INTs and 131 QB efficiency rating.
Gardner will be good enough to beat ND.

Agreed.
The rub, however, is that their schedule in 2014 is more difficult.

Piratey, I am sticking to my prediction that by the end of the 2013 fall campaign Golson will no longer be the starter at ND. Kelly will find someone better who is currently backing him up.
Not necessarily a knock on Golson [even tho that's the intent ;-)] . . . ND has some pretty good backups.

Wait so Michigan has running backs? I thought they only had Pryor and that other guy that Clowney treated like a rock em sock em robot. Pryor is gone and the other probably still thinks he is in outer space. Who is this guy competing with for the starting role?

Pryor played for tOSU.
Robinson played for Michigan.
