Youngsters may steal 'scared' Rangers' jobs

08:23 AM ET 02.07 | John Tortorella chose not to name names in referring to some as "tentative and scared" in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Devils. But as the Blueshirts coach admitted following an optional practice Wednesday in Greenburgh, "It's very safe to say" those players know who they are. ... "Maybe scared was the wrong word, or maybe it was the right word. You can say it 10 different ways." ... Tortorella also had suggested that young forwards Chris Kreider, who scored the Rangers' lone goal, and J.T. Miller -- a former first-round pick who was impressive in his NHL debut against the Devils -- "are going to probably take some people's jobs" if the inconsistency continues.

maybe try "scaring" some of the d-men

February 7, 2013  08:42 AM ET

They've got the Isles twice, the B's and the Lightning coming up. If they don't win 3 of 4, I say Torts gets the boot. Rotten Ronnie time in NYC!

No 3 finger Torts picture? I'm disappointed.

Why? It's not like the Power Play is humming.

Good. Let the kids play. Right now, the have a loaded top line; and then all the rest. Need to have balance. They need to find a good solid second line; whether that means kids stay and vets get pushed down; then so be it.

Rusty and Prust are sorely missed; as is AA would had size and could actually score.

Where's the three fingers?

It would have been appropriate given that they gave up 3 goals.

I was sorry to see AA go actually. Also Fedetenko....

Come on Danny, Torts may be dumb but he's not stupid.

Always liked Fedotenko. Obviously, not the most skilled, but seemed to give more than 100% on every shift.

Me too. He wasn't flashy but he got the job done.

That's why you have an AHL team. Bring up some of the kids who are doing well and let them earn a spot.

And I still do. It's just Torts is too smart to let that happen. Besides we're losing all the colourful guys.

Right where he needs to put them to jump start this team:)

Islanders aren't a automatic W right now, they've played pretty decently.
I don't see how any GM could justify letting a coach go in this short season. You have some of the big dogs in this league doing pretty bad right now. This may well be a flukey season where some of the bubble teams don't play enough to implode and you see some new teams in the playoffs. Rangers would have been much better off without Nash. As for Fedotenko, he had to make the Rangers on a try out basis as the Pens let him go unsigned because he became worthless. He has had some big goals in his career but he is largley un-noticed out there.

Exactly. And who traded for Nash?

Sather's ass is on the line here. Short season or not, i'm sorry but this team is in win-now mode. Dolan's going to start swinging the axe if this doesn't work out. Sather would make a change in a heartbeat.

Yeah I mean he made the splash for the supposed "big name scorer". If it back fires it back fires. Sather had to roll the dice since the end of next season will present a conundrum with all of the RFA's and FA's coming up. He threw caution to the wind and went all in. I had some trepidation with the pieces that were moved; and with Cally hurt it has become a glaring deficiency. They need a second and third line that can consistantly put the puck in the net. Right now, Steppan is getting a ton of chances but not making them count. Hagelin has just disappeared.....hopefully things turn around.
