Wade Redden to play in 1,000th career NHL game

03:33 PM ET 02.07 | St. Louis Blues defenseman Wade Redden will be playing in his 1,000 career NHL game on Thursday night when the team challenges the Detroit Red Wings at Scottrade Center. While 1,000 games played is an accomplishment for any player, this is especially true for Redden given the detour his career took while he was under contract with the New York Rangers. After signing a six-year, $39 million contract in 2008, Redden underperformed and the Rangers buried his contract in the American Hockey League so that they could keep it off their salary cap. Following the ratification of the new collective bargaining agreement, Redden was extended a compliance buyout and was able to sign with the St. Louis Blues.

Does anybody think the Blues give him the obligatory silver stick

maybe a pewter stick?

his +- isn't very good (-3), but he has 2 goals so far. He was a good soldier through his forced exile and I hope that he can go on to have a decent end to his career.

Maybe this is a good omen for the Red Wings. Recently, every time some has a milestone or gets honored at a game, that team ends up losing.

Its the Over/Under

Rangers way over paid and he under-performed. I mean if someone offers that kind of stupid money for your services why should he say no. I dont hold anything against the guy.

exactly.

I hate Gomez, but remember that I was against the buy-out from the get-go because I think teams should be accountable for their bad contracts. Pro scouting is extremely important, and the better the scouting, the least likely you will be to hand out this type of contract.

Friend I've loved the Wings since the 60s, but tonight I'm not holding my breath. But stranger things have happened:-)

Part of that -3 comes from the thrashing the Predators gave them...I'm happy for him...heard nothing but positive things about how he treated his teammates in the A.

1,000th NHL career game? That's gotta be THE most unremarkable and unflattering statistic I've ever seen!

Well, at 2-0 they show'd up, and with a spanking new goalie.
