Sidney Crosby: Isles fans "didn't show a lot of class"

05:46 PM ET 02.07 | Sidney Crosby miraculously doesn't have a broken nose, but he has a broken heart after the way Islanders fans cheered him off the ice after he took a puck to his face in Tuesday's game at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Crosby took a puck directly to his face, and many thought that he had been either knocked unconscious, suffered a serious head injury or at the very least broken his nose. But one thing not a whole lot of people expected was to have Sidney Crosby cheered off the ice in a jeering fashion by the fans in attendance. That's exactly what happened, and today Crosby is reflecting on the incident with not a whole lot of warm feelings for Isles fans. What this also proves, is that people still hate Sidney Crosby, and despite a lockout and a lot of time to think about things, there are still scored of fans that would rather see him take a puck in his grill than admit they tolerate him. Was it in poor taste to cheer, more than likely. But was it a criminal offense? No, so let's not try to bastardize a bunch of New York Islanders hockey fans because in reality they don't have much else going for them.

(an excuse me to the Pens fans in here I actually like...DWI/Durk,Burgh etc..)
But maybe if you weren't cheap shotting people, picking fights with goalies, diving, and crying every time someone hit you...and instead just played the game with the embarrasment of talent that you have...maybe they wouln't boo you. My memory may falter at times, but I don't remember Gretz getting booed in every barn he went into. Mario (you know, your boss?) was booed in the East Coast building, but that was more of a rivalry thing. So you know, maybe you're the victim of your own devices.

Everyone says this when its their player that goes down and gets cheered. But you would be cheering along with the other Pens fans if Giroux went down.

I was talking about Crosby's comments.
But to your other point...no I wouldn't, and never had when a player gets injured. So, come back, try again.

This is a bit condescending, especially for an anonymous hack that can't get a job with a real publication maybe?
I'm no Islander fan by any stretch, but this is a bit nasty

Good post. Same could be said for any City/Barn that does same....except Philly. JUST KIDDING!
Hence, when asked, instead of saying: "The fans didn???t show a lot of class,??? he said today prior to tonight???s home game versus Washington. ???I wouldn???t do that.???"
He should have simply said: "No comment, or I won't comment."
As someone else said, he just allows things to get to him too much.

If that was Pascal Dupius or Brooks Orpik or James Neal (who was whining as much as Sid that game), I don't think there would have been a single boo. Heck, if it was Malkin, I don't think there'd be a boo. It's the fact that it was Crosby and that he has a reputation now. People and teams and other teams fans generally dislike him.

Thats just big talk. I never want a player on any team to get seriously hurt, but I do remember watching the Winter Classic a few years ago and saying "NICE" when Crosby went down. And than when I found out he was seriously hurt thinking "F him, but I hope he is OK"
In my opinion the cheering is more about hoping the player felt some pain and will think twice about his next few moves/shifts. And hopefully the crowd will get into the players head and the player wont play well or be scared to play in the stadium b/c of the crowd.

Can only speak for myself. Not other fans.
I take my kid to games. I don't clap and cheer when a player gets hurt. It is teaching/setting a bad example. Don't do it a home for same reason. And I believe in that "karma" thing. So, no, don't think it, and I don't do it.
