01:11 PM ET 02.08 | The Washington Capitals held a players-only meeting on Friday morning to discuss the team's sluggish start to the 2013 season. Currently claiming ownership to the worst record in the NHL at 2-8-1, the club trails the next closest team by three points. On Thursday night, the club allowed the Pittsburgh Penguins to score five goals in the second period, which effectively put the contest out of reach. The Capitals have now lost three consecutive games and have yet to register a win on the road this season (0-4-1). The club will be back in action on Saturday night when they host the Carolina Hurricanes at Verizon Center.

A player's only meeting? Must have been an empty room as no one is really playing on that team right now.

The officiating was bizarre last night to say the least. The Pens benefited from some really bad calls and scored a couple power play goals in the second period. The Caps got a weird call when Ovie tried to slew foot Orpik but tripped both of them and the ref called Brooks for tripping. They got their second goal and actually started to play hard for a while.

Yeah Ovie was allowed to slew foot and leave his feet to run people.
Oh wait that is normal officiating.

Hmm....my schedule shows Florida visiting the Capitals tomorrow, not Carolina. Or did the Caps open a Bed and Breakfast in the arena and the Hurricanes are just stopping by?

Yeah they let Ovie be Ovie for a lot of stuff, but it wasn't just last night. Officiating has been pretty bizarre since the lock out ended. Even more so than years past. They'll catch some picky little borderline infraction and then ignore a flagrant penalty.

Is it me or does anyone else feel that Alex's game is pretty much boiled down to just sniping from the sideboards....??

They do. Semyon is Russian for Semin. That might explain a few things.
