03:17 PM ET 02.08 | The family of deceased former Penn State coach Joe Paterno will release their findings on the Freeh Report on Sunday. The Freeh Report was used by the NCAA as evidence to support their massive sanctions against the football program following the Jerry Sandusky scandal, and the family question the reliability of the Report. Those sanctions include a $60 million fine, a four year bowl ban, lost scholarships, and 14 seasons of forfeited wins. Paterno's wife, Sue, will also appear in an interview with Katie Couric on "Katie" on Monday.

I just can't understand punishing a football program for young ahtletes because of an adult pervert??? This is ridiculous putting the program on probation. I guess they expected Paterno to the kill the low life Sandusky...

Those with negative opinions about Paterno will not have their minds changed by their 'findings'. Paterno supporters, however, might be turned off by the family not letting it go.

It's sad that the family can't see that this just makes it worse and keeps it in the limelight that much longer.

Let me get this straight. they are still playing football on saturdays. they are still getting a very expensive and valuable education for it. Where is the punishment here again?.

They don't go to a bowl game? Gimme a break.....

This, exactly. The culture of "King Football" on the Penn State campus was judged to be a major factor in the way the school administration handled this situation. The penalties and the on-going compliance reporting are intended to restore balance between the academic and athletic programs of the university.

While I feel sad for Mrs. Paterno, her attempts to restore her husband's reputation are not helpful to anyone but the Paterno family and their loyal followers.

If it makes them feel better... OK then.

February 9, 2013  09:43 AM ET

Freeh report is said to have about 10% factual truth--- --why use facts??? I hope freeh gets his in the end.... too bad for the victims that the real truth wasn't brought out....

Our individual perceptions of Joe Paterno probably aren't going to change much. My take on the vacating of Penn State's is this: As some good long time college coach goes up the lists of wins the reports will be," With a win Saturday Coach _________ will tie Joe Paterno for eighth place on the all-time list of coaching victories." Then later, "Coach _________ has now passed Joe Paterno for eighth place in coaching victories." The vacated victories leaves Paterno on the list of great coaches but not the gold standard.

This is the nuts and bolts of the penalties. I worked professionally in the media, in State College. The tail was wagging the dog to the extreme. Penn State isn't unlike dozens of other college football programs that are an economic boon and reality escape for its region and fans. However, during the course of enjoying this culture of "King Football" , a monster was loose in the midst of it destroying little kids lives.

And those closest to it, and in the know, refused to stop it. The program and those that thrived from it the most would have been lauded as champions of human decency if they had just done the right thing and not buried their collective heads in the sand for fear of embarrassment. JoePa spent so much time and energy preaching to the choir how much he and the Penn State program represented "success with honor", the sound of his own voice drowned out the cries of the real victims.

I hope Al Pacino reads the statement at the press conference, in character. It would just make it all that more legitimate and surreal.

Do and say whatever you want, Joepa will always be the gold standard in college football wins at 401 or whatever it was there. I'll never forget win #400, and when Lane Kiffin breaks that record on December 4, 2038 I will rub it in each and everyone of your faces. But not until then.

You'll still be cheering for him when he wins #400 in Washington?
