Former Fresno State coach Jim Sweeney passes away at 83

11:46 AM ET 02.09 | Former Fresno State head coach Jim Sweeney passed away on Friday at the age of 83. Sweeney coached the Bulldogs from 1976-1996, and holds the school record for victories with 144, and has 200 total victories for his career. The field at the football stadium was named for him after he retired. Current Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter said, "Coach Sweeney is an icon in college football who put Fresno State football on the national map[.] His larger than life personality and tenacity in which he coached the game are legendary."
