08:04 AM ET 02.11 | For 22-year-old Matt Barkley, the countdown is on. [Barkley] knows his future in football will be shaped from evaluation at the upcoming NFL Combine. "This is probably the biggest test of my life coming up," said Barkley, the heralded Southern California quarterback, who visited Northwest Florida for the first time Friday to receive the Danny Wuerffel Trophy at the 44th All Sports Association Awards. "This is like the SAT (college entrance exam) times thousands," said Barkley, during a reception at the Emerald Grande in Destin prior to the banquet at the Emerald Coast Convention Center. "I hear the whole couple days is a grind. But I am looking forward to that challenge. I am excited about it."

Sure would like him to break the string of average pro QB's from USC.

Zzzzzzzzzzz........

February 11, 2013  08:24 AM ET

Another USC QB----- Going no-where....

The Danny Wueffel Trophy? What the Heath Schuler Award was already taken?

That award speaks for itself.

For running backs, you don't want to accept the Curtis Enis Award.

It's got to be for something like community service.

It is.

Good kid, had some bad luck with injuries and with an incompetent coaching staff.
Let's hope he can make an impression at the Combine and land with a team that can develop him professionally.

<looks at USC cup sitting on desk...>

Aye that.

February 11, 2013  10:36 AM ET

If he makes it to round 4 he would be a steal!

February 11, 2013  10:52 AM ET

If you 'squint,' it kind of like he's wearing a Redskins uniform...

This draft is certainly on a decline when regarding the QB position.

February 11, 2013  11:12 AM ET

Barkley = low second rounder. Not a franchise QB. He's not mobile and his arm isn't that strong. USC QBs come out coc ky and then c oc k up: Leinart, Sanchez, and the pirate's friend, the inimitable John David Booty: on the road to nowhere or already arrived. Matt, join the parade.

Surprising to think any football player might think the combine could be the biggest test of his life.

Yup. Good year to be a free agent QB in the NFL. Teams will be paying journeyman QBs like star QBs.

Especially when he has no plans to throw the football.
