08:07 AM ET 02.11 | James Harden's importance in Houston goes beyond numbers and all the way to being considered a vital step in building a contender. "I hope so," Harden said. "I've built some friendships these last couple years, this summer and throughout the time playing. They know what kind of person I am, how hard-working I am, knowing I want to win. I hope that becomes a factor of wanting to come to Houston and trying to win championships." When it comes to discussing his recruiting efforts, he was considerably more reticent. Asked if he had begun making his sales pitch, or at least laying the groundwork for next summer, he said he has chatted with "a couple guys." Asked who has received his initial recruiting attention, Harden smiled broadly and said, "A couple guys."

I disagree, I bet he's spending the time shooting jumpshots and recruiting instead of standing in front of the mirror wasting time looking pretty!
If Durant were focused enough on ball to leave his vanity at the door he might be on Harden's level.... (tongue piercing cheek)

well rockets are the second youngest team in the league teams that young do not win as much as rockets are atm, the knicks imo are kinda at their peak this is who they are not much room for growth.

The are 6-4 in the last 10 -- not bad.
I think they are building in the right way ... they are in a much better spot than 1 year ago. (and building with young guys -- better than when they almost got Gasol & Odom) The will have cap difficulties given what they gave Lin & Harden.
Harden has averaged over 32 ppg and 7 apg in last 3.

You manage to drop a Melo reference in there awfully fast, jgb. I mean don't let any bias or true colors get in the way. Harden is having a great season. And most people (probably you included) thought they would stink this year. They need more defense on the perimeter because he and Lin together is a joke.

All the Rockets is a solid post scoring presence in the paint that can spread the floor for Lin, Harden and Parsons. A solid veteran such as Al Jefferson would be perfect for them and they can certainly unload one of their " tweener" players in order to make the deal happen. Or even Josh Smith can be considered as a viable option as well.

The big free agents are:
CP3, Dwight and then you have Jefferson, Josh Smith, Milsap. I really think they need Milsap a guy that will not come too expensive and not mess up your core. Josh Smith wants a max type deal and someone will bite, might be Houston. If Dwight was to leave LA, Houston does have money and possible pieces.

Wasn't Asik supposed to be the dominant presence in the middle? (but I realize you're talking offense, not defense)
