08:17 AM ET 02.11 | How many quarterbacks does it take to back up AJ McCarron in Tuscaloosa? Among Alabama's seven -- yes, seven -- quarterbacks who will participate in spring practice, McCarron is the only one whose status is defined. He's the starter heading into his final year at Alabama while the other six will compete to not only back him up, but also be in the driver's seat to ultimately succeed him in 2014. There are three new additions -- [Cooper Bateman], Parker McLeod and preferred walk-on Luke Del Rio -- to go along with the three who backed up McCarron in 2012 -- Blake Sims, Phillip Ely and Alec Morris. Behind McCarron, there's no such thing as seniority, Alabama coach Nick Saban said.

Are all these guys on scholarship? If so, that seems like a few too many.

Word gets out about who dates Tide QBs, and every guy in high school who can throw a ball wants to play there. (Well, almost every guy)

Blake sims was not recruited as QB but he ended up playing there as backup this last year, just based on needs. He's kind of a receiver/3rd down back/oiption QB type of guy. The ones that usually move into a receiver role later on.
We saw that he was better than Ely, if used as a Wildcat/option QB so he moved into the backup. I believe he will move back to a receiver type role this year.

I have no idea why Luke Del Rio (Jack's son) is walking on at Alabama when he had actual scholarship offers from places like OK st.
