League laughing at Buffalo

08:17 AM ET 02.11 | When Terry Pegula purchased the Sabres, he als0 -- largely by way of his great business successes -- also bought the franchise hope from so many corners. They also said he would restore credibility. And they were wrong. High-ranking people from across the league are laughing at the Sabres, just as they did last year after the season turned ugly. What people, you ask? Sorry, but their names will remain private. ... [The] general opinion from a wide range of hockey minds -- general managers, scouts, agents, league officials, former players -- is that Pegula's success in the real world means almost nothing in the sports world. Most are stunned Darcy Regier and Lindy Ruff have survived when common sense called for their dismissal long ago.

Headline: "America laughing at Buffalo"

Fixed.

while I agree that both Ruff and regier should have been shown the door some time ago, I hardly would think they were a "laughing stock" . Lots of teams have had some pretty poor runs (including the NYR recent run of 7 straight non-playoff years) It is the way of things

But for real, has anybody ever turned one Stanley Cup appearance into as cushy a gig as Ruff and Regier did?

You say that like the Rangers WEREN'T laughing stocks during that period, or like the Leafs aren't now. If you spend big money badly, like all three teams have/did, you're gonna get ripped on. It's just a lot louder when it's places that matter, as opposed to Buffalo which should've been nuked ages ago.

I didn't mean to imply that, in fact just the opposite. I was alluding to the tone of the piece, as if to say...well, what you just did and I did...it is the way of things

I would think GM's around the league have enough to worry about with their own teams to be too concerned about what another team is, or is not, doing.

Happy President???s Day to all my American friends.

Today is also the 1st Family Day here in beautiful B.C. We don???t care if it???s Von Trapp, Addams, Kardashian or Corleone just as long as we get a long weekend in February. Alberta also has a stat holiday called Family Day because ???Stare Out The Window At The Minus 40 Bleakness And Weep Day??? was too long.

While agreed, wouldn't part of their job be to pay attention to high-priced bad situations like the one in Buffalo? There are pieces there that contending GMs would kill to get...

What's with the anti-43 sign? Is this Detroit related? Do you take umbrage with Darren Helm? Is this some late statement about W? Did you turn 44 and are looking back on age 43 with scorn? 'SPLAIN!

if the people of Buffalo don't stick up for themselves, who the heck will? They have enough with hearing everyone else calling Buffalo a 3rd rate dump, they don't need their own papers jumping on the bandwagon.

If you feel that strongly about this, I SERIOUSLY suggest staying away from the News' Bills section...

Of course, but for the writer to go as far as to state that the Sabres are the laughing stock of the NHL is absurd.
