08:10 AM ET 02.12 | Brooklyn may yet make a blockbuster move as the deadline approaches. [The Nets] are aggressively pursuing a trade for Atlanta Hawks star forward Josh Smith, league sources told ESPN. The two teams are engaged in discussions, but one source said while "there has been lots of talk, nothing is close yet."... [Brooklyn] is proving to be one of the most active teams in the league. As reported by ESPN.com on Friday, sources said the Nets also are talking with the Charlotte Bobcats about a Kris Humphries-for-Ben Gordon trade. While the Nets certainly want Gordon, sources said acquiring Smith is their higher priority. A trade for Smith would seemingly kill a deal for Gordon, because Humphries is one of the players being discussed with Atlanta.

Smith in Brooklyn would be interesting...

I guess they feel that Howard is not coming next off season when he is a free agent??

covet him for what?is smith that much of an upgrade over wallace ?and he will cost them much more

Yeah I don't get the fascination either.

Just trade him. They already lost him a long time ago because he has been shopped around for awhile.

It would be better to let him go in free agency then get a bunch of players you don't want. I never understand why people think you should trade an expiring contract. Look at what Orlando got for Dwight Howard a bunch of scrubs. It's smarter to let that cap space open up and sign players you want to build your team with.

Isn't smith more of a PF and Wallace a SF?

No man you get something for a player never let a player walk for nothing. If you are not in a major market you have to plan to rebuild through the draft. Orlando could have done better but they wanted young players and draft picks because you have to think long term. Orlando options were to trade for Brook Lopez, or Bynum. Imagine if it was a Bynum for Howard they would have been screwed. Lopez would have been ok but would have been getting paid pretty high and they still would have not been playoff material.

Smith can play both which is a positive. Humphries, Brooks and a 1st for Smith. Atlanta seems like they have enough guards already but they did lose Lou Williams for the season who knows.

Exactly.
