08:14 AM ET 02.12 | In the wake of Terry Francona's book, it may be easy to paint John Henry and the Red Sox owners as baseball dilettantes. [Henry was asked] if he, you know, loves the game. "It would be self-serving for me to answer that," he said. The question was repeated. "People of my generation grew up as baseball fans," said Henry, who spent his early years in Illinois and Arkansas. ... "I'd be listening every night in my farm house. And he'd say, 'There she goes, it could be, it could be ... it's a foul ball!' I loved that hesitation. And in between pitches with Harry, for kids this was such a powerful thing. Being on a farm, what did kids like us have?" ... "That was my life as a little boy," he said. "It's ludicrous to have to argue that I'm a baseball fan."

"Of course I'm a baseball fan my good man. I'll have you know that I've actually seen several games in my lifetime....just ask my Lovie"

Island games with 4 players and a coconut instead of a baseball don't count!JH does have a nice "lovie" though, hmmm?

Just finished reading Tito's book, and IMO he comes across as kind of a whiner. It was always somebody else's fault this team with a 180M payroll flopped. Henry may be a little weird and eccentric but nobody can say he wasn't willing to shell out a ton of money to improve the team. And for the most part he let the baseball people (Theo) make the personal decisions while he just wrote the checks.

The Professor made himself steroids from monkey crap and crab shells and was able to hit the coconuts all the way back to Hawaii.

But unlike the many Dominicans in MLB, he still couldn't hit his way off the island.
