Carpenter's $10.5M decision leaves irks some fans

Sounds like a miniature A-Rod scenario. Just be glad you don't have the full size A-Rod problem.

I have no problem with it at all. He is a gamer - IF - there is someone that could come back in this situation - I would consider Carpenter to be that person. And he would still pitch at a level comensurate with the salary (even as a 3rd or 4th guy given todays market). So this fan - no issue.

is insurance not in the picture? surely his contract/salary are insured, yes?

Carpenter still has a slim hope by the 2014 season,,,,,the guy has erarned that money he has had great games in the right time and the right place,,,,, its tough enough on him because,,the injuries has com every 4 years,,,,

The whiners are probably former Cubs fans.

This guy signed a contract, and he deserves to get paid the money.

If Carpenter had won 28 games last year, and was making that same amount of money for this upcoming season, I would still say that he had signed the contract and should honor it.

The team should honor the contract, and the fans should shut up.

Think Carp cares? Think again. Is he supposed to? Players are programed not to feel any guilt over guaranteed contracts or about being overpaid in general. They receive their money whether they play well or poorly, healthy or injured. Just ask A-Rod.

I agree.....if it was me I would take the money and not feel bad....it's all part of game business.....if this is an issue, then they need to change the future contracts to have a better way to deal with these scenarios.

I have no problem with this. Carpenter was underpaid many times while with the Cardinals. I agree that most of this is not Cardinals fans and I question how much of it is a reporter trying to generate a story out of nothing. This guy always gave everything. I think he also hurt himself by getting back as quickly as possible in 2011 and 2012. Pay him his money and thank him for his service.
