12:38 PM ET 02.12 | The Detroit Lions and quarterback Matthew Stafford are working on a contract extension for the fourth-year player out of Georgia, but general manager Martin Mayhew said the talks are still in their early stages. Stafford signed a six-year, $72 million deal after the Lions selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, and he's entering the fifth year of the contract. A new deal could potentially pay Stafford $100 million. He is coming off a 2012 campaign in which he completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 4,957 yards, 20 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

For a hundred mill he's got to do better than 4th place in a 4-team division, and better than a 4-12 record.

But go ahead, Detroit. You put yourself in cap hell with the Megatron deal. Think you can top that?

What's the rush? He's still got 2 more years, wait till next year. Spend some money on getting better players for him!

There's a reason some teams stink every year.

wow

No one can doubt his talent, at least not objectively. The team failing cannot be placed squarely on this guys shoulders. The coordinator is awful, throwing the ball 75% of the time just doesnt work in the NFL if you are trying to win titles or go deep in postseason no matter if you have a guy like Megatron or not. AND with all that being said, Do I think he is worth 100M? hells naw ha
