Cleveland Browns targeting Joe Flacco in free agency

07:01 PM ET 02.12 | If you can't beat them, give them multi-million dollar contracts to join them. Last night it was reported that the Cleveland Browns could go after free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace but their raiding of the AFC North likely won't end there. Tony Grossi notes that the Browns currently have $40 million under the salary cap to play with and that a lot of double-dipping might happen this offseason. The question then becomes, would it be worth it for Cleveland to essentially trade two first round picks to Baltimore to sign Flacco and possibly end decades of losing and suffering? The Browns could single-handedly turn the AFC North on its head, effectively shifting the power structure and reversing their fortunes in a single offseason. It's not guaranteed to happen, but it's one serious possibility this offseason. At the very least, if the Ravens do re-sign Flacco and let guys like Paul Kruger, Dannell Ellerbe and others walk, we have a good idea of who will be first in line to offer them big money contracts.

Flacco is a UFA so unless The Ravens franchised him without us hearing about it the Browns don't have to trade anything to sign him away from Baltimore.

They're trying to raise the price.

If the Ravens were foolish enough to use the lesser franchise tag, the Browns are the type of team who could offer a deal that the Ravens wouldn't be able to match.

Ravens would never let that happen. Art Modell would roll over in his grave.

Could be.
What have they got to lose. Either get a franchise QB or raise his price so high it really hurts a division rival badly. Its a true win win for the Browns!!!

Honestly, I don't know if I want him. The Super Bowl is on everyone's minds right now and for good reason. But, what about those games where he had like 147 yards passing, no td's and 2 ints. It doesn't seem like Brees or Brady have any of those games.

If the Ravens don't match any ridiculous offer that is out there, the Browns would get him.
I do not see this guy worth any more than 14m per season based on his history of play...sadly, someone will over pay based on what happened in the playoffs.
He will get a $20m per year deal, leave Balty and not be worthy of that contract...

Joking right? Brady had two of those games against the Ravens!

They could probably get Alex Smith for less, if he was in their scheme of things.

Yeah but what about the years where the Browns won 5 games! You know, like almost every year they have been back!
I think the Browns will take a shot a Flacco, it would be stupid if they didn't. If they don't get him then they drive up the price which handcuffs the Ravens on other FA's they have.

I'm sure they know they won't get him. They're probably just trying to drive the price up on a division rival.

Look up his games this year in the middle of the season. He had a bad run. Plus, we would lose two first round picks on top of not having a 2nd this year. If the Browns are paying someone 20 mil. a year, his last name better be Montana, Graham or Unitas. Plus I'm scared his uni-brow may come back and I don't think I can handle that.

Chud won 10 games with Derek Anderson as the qb, I think he can do better with Weeden. Just my opinion.
