Vick's deal means Alex Smith controls free agent floor

07:06 PM ET 02.12 | Alex Smith, the floor is yours. With news that Michael Vick has restructured his deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, thus taking him off the open market, all the free agent quarterback attention now turns to San Francisco 49ers backup Alex Smith. While he's not technically a free agent yet, Smith is going to be shopped around by the Niners and his price tag just got marked up considerably. Vick was Smith's only real competition this offseason when it came to quarterbacks that teams would be coveting as their starter for the 2013 season. Now that he's for sure going to be back in Philadelphia, Smith is the No. 1 guy on the market but you're going to have to trade for him if you want him. That complicates things a bit. As with Vick, teams were going to just have to fork over money to get him. With Smith, the forking over of the money will indeed have to still happen but a forking over of draft picks will have to happen before any contract is finalized.

The San Francisco 49ers have done everything they possibly could to ruin Alex Smith's career. #11's reign as starting quarterback is perfect failure (jamarcus is pretty close to perfect failure but he purple drank his way out of the league). The Niners could not have done anything more to crush this man.

That being said, the Niners will probably continue to destroy his career and send him to a terrible team desperate for a quarterback. I don't believe there is any room for kindness, loyalty, or respect in today's NFL.

I hope Alex Smith lands a big deal in the NFC so he can compete against Kaepernick.

The Vikings should go after him.

Smith would be stuip if he re-upped with the Team that Trades for his services, he's better off warming the bench and if by any chance Kapernek is injured he just might have another shot, after that Walk Away!!! Either way he should he should call his own shots!!!
