JaMarcus Russell would 'play for nothing' to return to NFL

07:06 PM ET 02.12 | One of the most interesting stories developing this offseason is the possible return of JaMarcus Russell to the NFL. The former first overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft has been out of the NFL for a few years now and is trying to make a comeback in order to salvage whatever career he maybe could have had with the Oakland Raiders. Obviously, Russell isn't going to be back with Oakland and despite rumors we still have little-to-no idea as to who would even be interested in signing the troubled quarterback. But while he's got a not-so-pleasant past, it appears that Russell truly is giving this little comeback his all and is serious about restoring his reputation as an NFL quarterback. If what has been reported is true, and Russell truly is ready to do it right this time in the NFL, we might finally get to see what could have been all these years. Is he going to be successful? Maybe not. But to see Russell return to the NFL and conquer his demons would be a bigger victory than any of the ones he could have had on the field.

The headline reads, "JaMarcus Russell would 'play for nothing' to return to the NFL". But don't be fooled; it's a typo.
The headline is supposed to read, "JaMarcus Russell would contribute nothing in a return to the NFL".

What position would he play? At a reported 308 lbs he may be suited to either D -line or O-Line.
Sure he would play for "nothing". He's already taken the Raiders for 39 million dollars. He may have already tore through all that money and might need a job. His odds of making any more money off of an NFL team though are zilch, none, and zero.

He should be willing to play for nothing, given how much money he stole from the Raiders!

The photo for this thread is my favorite image of a raider. An entire generation of people know the raiders by this picture.

Fact is, he's only 27 years old. He's 6'6" tall. IF, and that's a big IF, he can get in shape including his brain as a GM I'd take a flyer on him. He comes to training camp, if he's out of shape or mentally a mess you cut him. Cost would be minimal. If he's grown up he could be the steal of the year.

Therein lies the problem. Unless he's taken a great leap in maturity, the IFs won't happen.

And he can throw the ball 60 yards on his knees, right?
Stick a fork in him. But make it a long fork, because you'd lose a short one in all that blubber.

Good.
Your team can sign him then.

I don't think there's a GM out there that would be willing to stick his neck out to sign him.
