08:02 AM ET 02.13 | For fans of America's Team, he's polarizing, and he's likely to be around for a while. Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team wants a long-term contract with quarterback Tony Romo because he's the key piece to moving toward a championship. "Tony is a key piece of what we're about going forward," Jones said Tuesday. ... [Romo], in the last year of his contract, is scheduled to earn a base salary of $11.5 million in 2013. His salary cap figure is a team-high $16.8 million. ... Jones wouldn't get into specifics about how much the team wants to pay, but Romo could command a three- to five-year deal with an average salary of at least $12 million, slightly more than what he received in his last contract.

This is Romo's last contract. They had better be thinking about the future.

Indeed. Romo is 32. It's time to find that Quarterback Of The Future, but right now they need a Quarterback Of Next September.

Good joke but Romo is a Top 10 QB, unfortunately he does not have the line or run game to get him over the hump.
The team def needs to find a QB in the draft for the future...

Dallas' next championship QB isn't Romo. He's somewhere in college, maybe highschool.

Somehow I agree with you but his constant silly mistakes are just depressing to watch and I'm not even a Cowboys fan.

Plan 9, the truth is out there. The real Jones was replaced by an alien after his 2nd SB.

Be careful...
Joe Flacco is not as good as Tony Romo and he just won a SuperBowl.
You hit on the right combo of players with current veteran talent and you never know.
Odds are you are prob correct, but lots of good pieces are there on that team...
