Ventura turned down White Sox extension

08:09 AM ET 02.13 | As a manager, Robin Ventura doesn't seem to have a far horizon. Before a baseball game, don't ask him about what he'll do in the ninth inning. He's mostly concerned about what's going to happen in the first. ... Ventura is entering the second year of the three-year contract he signed in October of 2011. But when the White Sox went to him this winter and offered a one-year contract extension, Ventura said "no." This isn't to say that he won't manage after his current contract expires. He's just not ready to commit to anything past it. "You can see doing it longer, I think there's also a point where it needs to be somebody else," Ventura said Tuesday in an interview with Comcast SportsNet. "I think you can either burn out or people stop listening to you."

He may not be the best player to wear the #23 in Chicago, but he is probably the most level-headed one.

23? Yeah, third down on the list. His head is so level he's not even sure he wants the job

Jerry Reindsdorf has a list of former Sox players to replace Venture just in case. I'm hoping he hires Carl Everett next, or Ron Karkovice.

Or how about the other 23? Sandberg, the other white meat.

Reinsdorf would hire him just to piss off Cubs fans.

Sandberg would also enjoy that as well, but he's currently waiting for Manuel to croak.

Manuel will probably be fired if the Phillies don't make the playoffs, so he probably wouldn't have to wait long.

Wouldn't it be funny if Sandberg turned out to be a fiery jerk manager like Bowa?He was so quiet and nice as a player that he it made his teammates suspicious. He did have the crazy first wife in the corncob dress, though.

Corncob dress?

He's actually a pretty successful minor league coach, I believe for the Iron Pigs or something.......

Try to find a pic from Sandberg's first retirement...she wore this print dress that screamed, "LOOK AT ME!!! I'M EASY!!!"

I found one picture so I get the corn cob reference. But it only shows her from chest up. Was it short and tight as well as ... busy ...

His 2nd wife had the look of that 30ish librarian who you slowly notice is probably pretty hot under the sensibly tied up hair and reading glasses...probably a better match for Ryne's temperament. I could see the first one cheating on him multiple times on their wedding night.

I have to say wife #1 is pretty good looking.
