08:13 AM ET 02.13 | Perhaps Lane Kiffin's search for an offensive coordinator will end in his backyard. One coach who could make a world of difference for Kiffin as he prepares to enter a crucial 2013 campaign is Jeff Tedford, who was the longtime head coach at Cal. While he shot down rumors in late November that the school intended to interview Tedford for the role of OC, Kiffin would be wise to give the former Golden Bears head coach a hard look for this vacancy. And not just for the title of 'offensive coordinator.' Kiffin should relinquish play-calling duties to Tedford as well. ... Despite the rough end to his long tenure in Berkeley, Tedford is an accomplished offensive mind who also happens to be a Los Angeles native.

Jeff Tedford would be a great hire. He'd have access to better pool of talent at USC.

I agree with this 100% And we should try to get Lovie Smith for DC (now I am stretching it.)

I love this idea. LOVE it. Hiring him would mean Lane would not be calling plays. He can focus more on HC stuff (save it you guys).

ICE, how about naming Tee Martin OC, if the Tedford thing doesn't work out!! Is Tee capable and qualified for the OC position?? Just curious!!!

Speaking of asst's, OU purges 2 more last night. Only 4 on coaching staff from a year ago.

OU can get away with this without receiving much scrutiny because Stoops runs a tight ship and Castiglione controls the access. DDodds could learn a few things from JC.

I don't think Tee is ready yet. Plus, naming him OC would be the same as Coach Pola was. Just a title. We need an actual OC, who runs things and calls plays.

Thanks!!! Hiring Tedford would be a good fit as OC, as it would get the play calling off of LK's shoulders!!!!

Yes we want SC at her best, especially now that ND is back up front where we belong.
Its time for this long heated rival to mean something big once again.

Let Lane stay HC for a decade, then judge his reign.

The way I see it, if Kiffin has a decade, during that time, USCw will accept invitations to a number of second tier bowls. There will be opportunities for petulant players to further embarass the univeristy in other cities, tick-off other bowl committees, and lose to other lesser programs. El Paso, the Sun Bowl, and Georgia Tech - check. On the to do list: Albequerque, the New Mexico Bowl, and MWC; San Francisco, Kraft Fight Hunger, and an at-large FBS team; Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Bowl, and MWC again; San Diego, the Holiday Bowl and B12-2; San Antonio, the Alamo Bowl, and the B12-2 again.

The way I see it, give Kiffin a decade, and USCw will be universitas non gratis in several cities and with several bowl committees. The Trogs program will have a rep for underperforming its talent level and coming up just short of the CC. Lane will have burned so many CFB bridges that when USCw declines to extend/renew his contract, the only opportunities to stay in the coaching profession will be as a position coach in the NFL or with a desperate club in Canada.
