Boyle furious over benching

08:16 AM ET 02.13 | Based on the results, it's hard to fault John Tortorella for the changes, even if he's hearing it from one of his players. Rangers forward (and Boston native) Brian Boyle will be scratched for the third straight game Tuesday against the Boston Bruins and he's not happy about it. Venting his frustration, the struggling center wants back into the team's lineup and feels he can still contribute to his Rangers squad. "I didn't play as well as I could've but I know I can be a good player and effective player in this league and on this team," he told reporters Tuesday morning. ... "It's infuriating sitting out, it's awful. And it's [ticking] me off a lot." Gotta imagine John Tortorella likes to see this sort of fire and anguish from Boyle. Although the hulking centerman is fighting it right now, he's showing the requisite desperation to return.

Gotta imagine John Tortorella likes to see this sort of fire and anguish from Boyle.
Yeah, i'm sure Torts of all people is thrilled with one of his guys airing his grievances to the media, an institution John clearly adores.

I wish I could laugh at this, but it's more sad than anything Tortorella treats his players like insolent children, and here's one acting just like it. It helps that Boyle is shameless as well.

Halpern is a good face off guy. Boyle is mediocre at best when he is on.

He sucks plain and simple. In this shortened season he hasnt exactly blown away his little expectations. What should Tort's do?
He sits him down; obviously its working if Boyle is getting pissed. Torts looks like an angel compared to Keenan in 94.

I disagree with this. The fact is, Boyle was not playing well. He is a good player, nothing spectacular, but the 1st few games he looked lost at best. As I always told my son, you have to make the coach feel like he can't NOT have you out there every moment. And truth be told, Halpern has been playing pretty well.I personally think that Boyle has not been the same since Neil clocked him last playoffs. He played i think 1 or 2 more games after that, and was clearly not ready to. But maybe the fact that he is fuming means he has some spark back.

I don't think he sucks, but admittedly he'll never be on the Hart 'short list". he kills penalties well, and is okay on face-offs. He has been known to score the occasional goal. But he needs to step up to at least as he was last season.
And I agree about Torts. If the Rangers ever do win, it will in part because of torts. I sometimes think they won in spite of Kennan.

It is all about working in your role in the NHL. Boyle is supposed to get to the dirty areas, hit and play strong defense. He has not provided that at all. Right now all 12 forwards are performing in their designated roles. Boyle may be furious, but it should be with himself.
