05:25 PM ET 02.13 | The NCAA is considering rules that would eject defensive players for "targeting" defenseless players. The proposed rule and eight others passed by the NCAA Football Rules Committee to be approved by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel, who will meet on March 6. Others include rules about blocking below the waist, a ten-second runoff when the clock stops for injury in the final minute of halves.

10 seconds seems excessive. I think 5 seconds would be more appropriate.

5 seconds isn't enough time to distribute moist towelettes and to take drink orders.

This is bogus -- the officials already have the ability to eject ["disqualify"] a player for a hit they deem excessively dangerous. Perhaps a "point of emphasis" might be a better way to handle it (with the occassional ejection to make the point).

I see a lot of potential for fan bases to cry 'bias' when their guy gets ejected on what is basically a subjective call.

Players will be afraid to hit someone in fear of being ejected......this rule would change the game dramatically......no longer might be the game as we know it.

I wonder how Paul Johnson views the proposed blocking rule.

The 10-second run off rule will be bad. I can see no good coming of it.

Tough one. You can't cost a team a game because a player was untimely hurt; but you don't want to let a player fake an injury to stop the clock. I'm sure there've been fakes in the past, but it seems a minor problem to the game, and something that really doesn't need to be addressed with this rule.
