Nowizki on rehab: 'I was down a lot'

07:32 PM ET 02.13 | It's been a long time since Dirk Nowitzki has been on a team below .500. But that's the reality in Dallas these days, and the Mavericks got no help when Nowitzki missed much of the season because of a knee injury. He returned, and admittedly it could've been too soon. The rehab process has taken longer than expected, and it's been frustrating for the German, who prides himself in taking care of his body. He's still working his way back, averaging 15.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, and Nowitzki told Grantland just how difficult the season has been for him, both from an individual and a team standpoint. "And now, when you're coming off injury, your brain is trying to do all that stuff, but your body just doesn't respond quick enough," Nowitzki said. "My mind is all, 'Spin right here and split the double-team,' but nothing is coming. It has been frustrating. I was down a lot. I'm usually a fun guy."
