New England needs Ed Reed

07:55 AM ET 02.14 | Bill Belichick's drafts may have received mixed reviews, but many of his offseason acquisitions have paid off -- Rosevelt Colvin, Corey Dillon, Rodney Harrison, Randy Moss, Junior Seau and Wes Welker come to mind. [Each] of them had a major impact in keeping the New England Patriots in Super Bowl contention over the past decade. At first glance, this offseason does not look to be one where the Patriots will make one of those moves. ... [The] potential decline of Tom Brady and the fact that the distance between New England the rest of the AFC title contenders is likely diminishing means a return to the status quo won't be enough for the Patriots to earn a berth in Super Bowl XLVIII. To do that, they need to find a way to sign Ed Reed.

Bill Belichick has made some terrible off-season acquisitions as well, but he tends to recognize his mistakes early and get rid of them. But Ed Reed is a no brainer for any team.

Don't see Reed to New England. How much do you offer a guy in decline? And would Reed take a little bit of money or just retire if Ravens don't want him back? Statistically speaking, the Patriots don't need him at all and they were in the AFC title game so it's not like a 35 year old FS is going to be the difference.

They've needed help in thier backfield for a few seasons. Reed would help, but a lot of holes to fill.

I'd hate to try defending him in court. He doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Ed Reed would be welcome to join the Cowboys. In their new Cover 2 scheme, he would be sick at FS ball hawking the way he does.
But, then again, this makes too much sense for Jerry of late...

I'd love to see him in New England. There's talk of Aqib Talib looking for big money as a free agent, so signing a proven veteran for the backfield would be a good idea.
