07:59 AM ET 02.14 | With the trade deadline looming, speculation has turned up the possibility that Philadelphia would send Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes to Atlanta for soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Josh Smith. [But] such a deal would not interest the 76ers, according to two league sources with knowledge of the situation. "Why would the Sixers be interested in making a deal for a player who can walk at the end of the season and leave them holding nothing but the bag?" one source said. "I don't see where that makes sense for them." Although the Sixers would acquire Smith's Larry Bird rights -- meaning they could sign him to a more lucrative deal than any other team -- they would have no guarantee that Smith would re-sign with them.

Isn't this true for all the other teams too?

QUOTE(#6):

Stupid. They shlda rolled the dice on this one. Smith and Bynum would be a nice 1-2 combo for Holiday to pass to.

Bynum has yet to play and it's looking more and more that he won't. He just stated yesterday that his left knee still hurts. That trade will go down as a complete disaster for the Sixers.

Philly made a boneheaded move signing Bynum.

Adding Smith for half a season (won't stay any longer then that) will make much difference.

QUOTE(#11):

It seems that Denver and Orlando are the ones that made out pretty well w/ the trade....hehehe

It's looking better and better every day for the Magic. Yeah, they suck terribly right now but they've had key injuries on a very marginal team to begin with. Now Turkey's gone for 20 games, it'll stay ugly. But those draft picks and unloading all of those bad contracts along with a lottery pick this year looks a lot better than what the other guys are dealing with.

Hmm I will pass on this. I would rather have Milsap who can be had cheaper and with less risk of bolting. I like Smith but not if it costs Turner and Hawes, then have to worry about if we are able to sign him. It can be the Bynum situation all over again. Atlanta needs to trade Josh Smith for Al Jefferson and then go from there. Get another team involved if need be. And to the poster talking about the Bynum trade yeah it is bust this year. The only thread of hope Sixers have is maybe they are able to sign Bynum for cheap next year with his gimpy knees.

Jgb,

In the short term I don't think we are contending for anything unless we have a healthy Bynum, or at least as healthy as he was last year with the Lakers. Milsap would not take us to the next level but having him I think makes us a playoff team with or without Bynum.

Good enough Good enough
C Bynum Bynum
F Smith T Young
F T Young Milsap
G N. Young/Richardson Turner
G Holiday Holiday

I say this as well for Sixers to even be thinking about this might be a desperation attempt to get a "star" in Smith as a true second option with no lock Bynum returns. So keep two upper tier players in Smith and Holiday let Turner go who would be cheap young piece at the SF/SG role that ATL does not have.

Josh Smith is not a max player, in spite of his own sense of delusion.
