08:13 AM ET 02.14 | What a difference a few months has made for 23-year-old Drew Doughty. [Doughty] had the best plus-minus rating during last season's playoffs among NHL defensemen at plus-11. Eleven games into this season, he's minus-10 for a Kings team that has fallen from Stanley Cup champion to the cellar of the Pacific Division. "I'm not happy about some things -- not scoring points, I haven't scored a goal yet -- it isn't a good thing," Doughty said Wednesday at Kings practice. ... Kings Coach Darryl Sutter said that although he didn't want to single Doughty out, the defender has to play better in his own zone. "That's not really a surprise. ... That's not a team issue," Sutter said. "He's a young defenseman. He has a lot to learn."

That's gotta hurt.

I saw the replay during the game, but I still didn't see where the injury came from. Looking closely now I could see that when the went into the boards, Cooke's left leg goes into his Achilles. I don't think Matthew did that on purpose, but he's been starting to revert to his old ways lately.

Don't ever enjoy seeing somebody, ANYBODY, getting hurt so bad. But, with Spezza out and now Karlsson, it's pretty safe to say a playoff spot just opened up in the east. The fact it's coming at Ottawa's expense? Not the worst thing.

A Spezza in your Karlsson makes your 'Twattawa stink?

Agreed, opens one up for PHA. Now we will see if they can take advantage of the opportunity

Doughty was awesome in the playoffs , but for a bug chunk of his regular season last year he was invisible also.

I'm at a loss on this one. I'd like to believe he wouldnt be so sick as to jam his skate blade into the back of a better player's calf. I'd like to think that this was just the worst kind of accident.

I agree, and also with Burgh that Cooke has been slowly regressing

I honestly don't think he's all that and then some.

He's no Weber.

No way it was intentional.

Did anyone read Alan Muir's bit on it?

$30 for Kevlar socks.

Guys not wearing mouth guards, not sporting kevlar socks, etc? Cheap insurance.

Sounds really dumb to me.

+1

Inasmuch as I couldn't care less if Matt Cooke was even on the Pens, I also disagree with him "reverting." Until last night, he is one of the least penalized Pens on the team. And again, I am not in the biz of defending Matt Cooke.

I understand everyone is going to think it intentional or dirty, cause of the name on the jersey. He deserves that rep, but as far as the incident last night, not sure he intended to hurt.
