03:34 PM ET 02.14 | The Vancouver Canucks have placed forward Manny Malhotra on injured reserve, according to an announcement by general manager Mike Gillis on Thursday afternoon. While the release did not specify why Malhotra was being placed on injured reserve, it did state that he would not play in the remainder of the 2013 season. Malhotra suffered an eye injury in 2011, which he is believed to still be suffering the residual effects from. According to Bob McKenzie of TSN, Malhotra is not ready to retire but those involved want to better assess whether his eye sight will ever return to what it once was. McKenzie believes that Malhotra will still remain with the organization as an assistant coach this season, but no such announcement has been made as of Thursday.

I don't listen to much while I'm driving and I was on the road yesterday.

So I slummed for a few minutes and CCCP1 (Canucks Team Radio) were going on endlessly about this.

Yet when they rushed him back last year nobody thought anything of it.
