Are the Redskins rushing RG3 back from ACL injury?

07:11 PM ET 02.14 | The Redskins might be getting a little ahead of themselves when they say he's going to be ready for the first week of the season, but it is encouraging to know that RG3's recovery is going as well as Washington says it is. Obviously, given they were fined for doing so earlier in the season, they're not going to lie about his status, but it's still a bit too early to confidently say RG3 will be ready for opening day. But progress is positive and the fact that Adrian Peterson came back to have such an outstanding season is in the front of the Redskins' mind. However, let's hope it doesn't become the vision they have for RG3, as rushing him back from the injury could prove disastrous for the growth of Griffin III and could stunt the talent boom the NFL is currently experiencing.

Isn't rushing him back onto the field the reason they're in this situation in the first place?

it would be stupid to rush RGIII back.
The NFC East has ....
--- Philly; breaking in new coaches and schemes
--- Cowboys; breaking in new coaches and switching to a 4/3 defense
--- NY Giants; almost as dysfunctional as Dallas
Redskins should be able to stay competitive in the division until RGIII is fully ready.

He will start the first game in Sept and his knee will be a sound as it's ever going to get following his reconstruction.
You guys don't seem to understand that the leaps in techniques and technology for this type (and most others) of surgery has changed the game significantly. The doctors are able to do these procedures with some of the tiniest arthroscopic equipment you've ever seen and by combining minimal invasive techniques with cadaver tendons to replace the blown up ligaments, the rehab now starts immediately.
I know that the media loves to portray AP as some type of freak for coming back from his surgery so quickly, but if you look around the sports world you will see that the time frame is 6-9 months is quickly becoming the norm.

The NFL is bigger than any one player. If it can survive without Peyton Manning, I'm sure it will be just fine without Michael Vick II. Hell, it did just fine without Michael Vick I while he did prison time.

This is his second ACL surgery, the rehab time is typically longer, more like 8-12 months. And your chances of having another tear go up every time you tear it. You are talking about this like it is his first ACL surgery but it isn't. AP IS the exception. And the major concern is Shanahan's brain damage which caused this whole mess in the first place, that hasn't been fixed. They didn't use a cadaver tendon by the way, Rushing him back into line up without a careful rehab is brazenly stupid. But predictable, as we fans have known for a while. Since the Skins haven't released full details on the situation, it doesn't make much sense to be over speculative. No serious doctor would predict at this time how long his recovery period would be, that is an individual thing. But if RG3 doesn't wise up and get out of a game at the first sign of trouble he will have a short career.
