06:33 PM ET 02.14 | David Ortiz was speaking openly about the issues facing professional baseball and, as you would expect, the topic of steroids in the sport, including the recent Biogenesis scandal. Ortiz was speaking with Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com when he let out this incredible gem: "When I first heard about [players being linked to the clinic]," Ortiz said. "I started saying that us, as baseball players, we pretty much might be the dumbest athletes of all the sports because there's a history of players doing things like that and later on getting caught. We're talking about six or seven years. So how come in 2011 or 2012, there are players still being caught in the same situation?" Ortiz has a very valid point. There isn't another sport out there that faces as many questions about performing enhancing drugs as baseball and a lot of it has to do with the arrogance and ignorance of the players.

How much did getting caught cost Melky? Not as much as doing the steroids made him. They same can be said for many of the steroid users. They do it because it works and it makes them truck loads of cash. That doesn't mean they are stupid. It means they are greedy and don't mind breaking the rules and getting caught once in a while.

Wait, if Big Papi is saying this, what does that make him? The spokesperson for dumb MLB players? Not sure I would want that title.

Really, he ought to keep his head down and take his swings four times a game.

He who smelt it, dealt it...

To me the dumbest players in sports are NBA players, most sail right through high school , one year enrolled in college, and they learned is how to shoot and sign those big contracts.

Maybe in Boston, but not everywhere...

It takes one to know one... and Papi fits that bill. I could not agree more.
