08:02 AM ET 02.15 | The clock is ticking. Although talks continue between both parties, the planned meeting between the Rams and running back Steven Jackson's agent have yet to take place. Jackson has until the start of free agency March 12, now less than a month away, to decide whether to void the final year of his contract. If he voids, Jackson becomes a free agent. Jackson said four weeks ago on the NFL Network that the parties would sit down in February. "We're going to talk about my possibilities, where I want to go, and does it fit?" Jackson said at the time. "I believe we'll get everything resolved before March." Well, February is half gone, but sources familiar with the negotiations say the meeting could take place at the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine.

I think he has one more year left in him. How do you feel about wearing a horse's head on your helmet and playing in Denver, Stephen?

Don't push that envelope too far Steve. You turn 30 before the season starts and you have 2,400 carries on those wheels. You are not in long term territory.

Exactly what I was thinking of except I envisioned a green and gold jersey with a big "G" on the helmet. :)

That would be $7 million contract year he is voiding if he does. Does his agent really think there are teams out there that would pay more? The Rams should just call his bluff. And that is what it is, a bluff....

The Giants got more production out of injured A. Bradshaw and they cut his a##. And he is younger. Think it through stevie. Think it through.

Jackson will be a free agent but won't get a big time contract.

Running backs who average 66 yards a game are not that hard to find and nobody with cap room pays more than his current due $7 million for one. You bet the Rams are in no rush to extend his contract.

I think he would look much better in a Steeler uniform.

February 15, 2013  10:50 AM ET

He's a stud...if they do call his "bluff" as some have stated...31 other teams will be on the line with his agent ASAP! Imagine how he'd be with an actual team around him

No cap room!

Not so fast. A lot of teams are against that cap and any team would have to better that $7 million contract he would be voiding. He may be somewhat of a stud, but 66 yards a game is what he gained and he will be 30 this July. You won't see any tears from the Rams if he goes that route. Running backs come and go. Call his bluff! He even mentioned retirement if he does not get his way...BS.

He WAS a stud. Now he is a 30 year old RB with a resume. And A.P. he is not.

February 15, 2013  11:14 AM ET

If the decision is in Jackson's hands I see the Rams not offering any extension, the cost would be prohibited, now if he were AP?

February 15, 2013  11:35 AM ET

Note to Steve Jackson: The Rams have not had a winning season since 2003. do not squawk too loudly, someone might hear you. Or: When the company is losing money is never a good time to go in and demand a raise.

+1. If he's about money, he stays with the Rams. If he's about a shot at a SB, he picks a team on the cusp and signs for whatever they offer (probably veteran minimum).

The team that signs Jackson will be a lucky team, he has a few years left in him. The poor guy was the only offense the Rams have had for the last 4-5 years.

And they still were the 19th ranked team in rushing the football. Maybe the smart thing to do is take that $7 million and put it into some WRs.

Couldn't agree more 50. Jackson and his agent are posturing in an effort to see if other teams might step up to the plate with an offer. I believe he will play for the Rams next year.

Now if he was only due 3-4 million next year on his contract then I think he would bail out in a NY minute & he would be pursued by 10-12 teams at least.
