08:08 AM ET 02.15 | Nearing his 50th birthday, life is awfully good for Michael Jordan. Jordan earned an estimated $80 million last year from corporate partners Nike, Gatorade, Hanes, Upper Deck, 2K Sports, Presbyterian Healthcare and Five Star Fragrances. Other Jordan assets include six restaurants, a North Carolina car dealership, a motorsports team and his 80% stake in the Charlotte Bobcats. ... The Jordan Brand, a division of Nike, is responsible for the vast majority of MJ's earnings. Jordan partnered with Nike after being drafted by the Bulls out of North Carolina in 1984. ... The terms of Jordan's current deal with Nike are a closely guarded secret, but royalties now generate more than $60 million annually for MJ, according to sources.

He is helping the larger world by feeding them with his restaurants, clothing them with his shoes, providing them transportation with his car dealerships and entertaining them (used loosely here) with his Bobcats and motorsports team.

Yet another person who feels like people who make a lot of money should give it to people who don't. How do you know he doesn't already do that? Why don't you give more instead of telling someone else to give more? Lead by example and mind your own business. Entitlement is destroying this country...

Just wish the sweatshops had a little piece of that, even just a fraction. But then again, Nike aren't the only corp's that engage in such highly immoral practices.

Not sure he was advocating entitlement..I think his point was seeing how these ppl got uber rich largely because of the ppl in this country, why not do something to help those less fortunate? I mean, would it really hurt any of them to drop 5 Mil? Doubt it...sure its not our money and they dont owe anyone but there comes a point where you should feel the obligation to do more than just buy stuff. With more power comes more responsibility...
Not to veer off topic too much but it has always amazed me how fat cats in D.C. can step OVER homeless ppl laying in streets on Capitol Hill and Georgetown...something just seems inherently wrong with that

Crazy that MJ is still making serious coin...and you would think he would just retire somewhere but no...the guy is still heavily involved in basketball on a day to day basis.

44,000. I wonder what the percentage of that number works in the sweat shops.

I still prefer the Nike brand over the others, the Swoosh continues to be a strong marketing force over the other brands.

And I definitely respect that..I personally feel both sides of the debate. I just know if I had dough like them...things would be different. MJ doesn't do SQUAT locally...and I am a fan of the team and want him to succeed, but I'm just tellin it like it is..
