The last time [Howard] was involved in a contract negotiation with the Detroit Red Wings, he admittedly was distracted to the point where it affected his performance. That was two years ago. ... Detroit is just fine.

They didn't lose Lidstrom in his prime.

They lost a guy who was well past his bet before date.

On any day they can beat anybody.

If Jimmy does go elsewhere, it could very well be the youngster Petr Mrazek, not The Monster or Luongoal, between the pipes in the Motor City.

Jimmy isn't the second coming of Terry Sawchuk but if everybody is playing he's good enough.

But they can't win 4 playoff series. Or 3. 2 would take some luck. And in Detroit, Cup hockey is the ONLY goal. If the current build of this team isn't championship-calibre (and I think everyone can agree they aren't), Illitch will make sure management does what has to be done to get it back there.
