03:22 PM ET 02.15 | Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk thinks Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke should not be allowed to play in the NHL. In the wake of the incident that resulted in the laceration of Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson on Wednesday night, the Senators have been outspoken in their disdain for Cooke. Citing his past history, the franchise has insinuated that Cooke intentionally injured Karlsson. Originally frustrated by the NHL's decision not to suspend him, Melnyk revitalized his opinion that "goons" should not be allowed in the NHL. This isn't the first incident that has involved the Senators and Penguins; in 2010, Senators forward Jason Spezza was injured by a hit from Penguins defenseman Kris Letang.

Has that idiot even watched the play? I think Cooke is a dbag but this was NOT something he was trying to do. I've seen it from a couple different angles....there's no intent there at all. If there is this guy is a magician and we know he's not smart enough to hide it when he dirty hits someone... he's pretty much straight up goonery when he is being dirty.. I think one of these days he's going to get caught doing something stupid....but this wasn't it

Agree.

Same play is made game in and game out by many different players. This guy is whining because the franchise player is done; and so are his playoff chances.

There are Gooons and then there are players like Cooke. No need for them in this sport. Tough guys are one thing common thugs are another.

yup

typical over-reaction. Sucks to lose your top player, but it was an accident. And it's not as if I've ever supported Cooke before.

agree with that....but wonder why he is still playing when he has been warned and suspended so many times.
