Steven Stamkos to wear cut-resistant socks

This sounds like it makes way too much sense to implement.

These guys are not bright.

Here at work they drum safety into our heads 24/7. Hard hats in the bush, steel toed boots, faller's pants for chainsaw operators.

And they only make $75K a year in a good year.

You'd think these putzes would be concerned about their brazillion $ salaries they could loose just like that.

It's the same reaction every time there is a freak accident that involves a skate...

I remember after Donald Audette got his wrist sliced with a sakte, every major equipment manufacturer came out with some take on and articulating wrist guard-glove combo. Tons of cut proof wrist guard models were also developped. In the end nothing changed.

While I was working at Reebok there was a really bad skate-cut-to-the-neck involving Zednik. A friend of mine that was working in project development showed me a few dozen e-mails that customer service had forwarded him. Apparantly neck protectors aren't mandatory in youth hockey in all U.S. states, so a good number of consumers weren't even aware of the existense of neck guards. There was no spike in neck guard sales that year, despite an nhl player nearly being killed on the ice.

And in this case the retailers are going to sell a bunch of socks over the next few weeks, and then everyone will forget about it.

and it's a good product, on top of it all. The leader in the industry has his product in 28 nhl rooms, and the product is there for any player that wants to take it. They just can't force the players to use them (thank you, collective bargaining).

I could understand if the product sucked, or if it was incredibly uncomfortable...but they feel just like any other quality sock.

they could be really heavy though. these things are a freak accident, or a maliciously dirty play. i dont see the need for them really.

I'd wear them.

I heard a lame excuse that a lot of players are used to wearing no socks at all in their skates.

It's a wonder it doesn't happen more often.

Yup..and i really wonder why they dont all use face-shields..even half ones...i guess they think that they have a spare eye ball..they dont really feel the need to protect them both.......even if play gets chippy.....take the damn helmets off and scrap it out...sounds easy right.

the most used cut-proof sock doesn't even have kevlar in the blend. It actually feels and performs like a normal high quality sports sock.

so why isn't every player wearing them?

No matter how freak an accident....you'd think guys would want to protect against them if possible.

Why does Marty Brodeur still have his chest protector and jock strap from when he came into the league?

Better yet, why do only a small handful of NHL players wear neck guards, even though they've all seen incidents like Zdnick, and even thuogh they've all worn them since they played youth hockey? It's an image and culture thing. It used to be that you got ot the big leagues, you take off the visor.

I don't have a particular interest in players wearing the socks or not. I just think that it's ridiculous not to when they feel fine and they are free.
