Ben Howland firmly on UCLA hot seat

10:35 AM ET 02.16 | A segment of UCLA fans are in the anti-Howland camp, with their spokesman being former Bruin and television analyst Bill Walton. The 76-63 loss to California on Thursday was another chance for Walton and other Ben Howland critics to vent. But where Howland stands with those who matter is unknown. Associate Athletic Director Mark Harlan was there to give a pat on the back and a hug after the Bruins' last-second victory over Washington. No one from the administration showed up to greet Howland at the postgame news conference two nights later after UCLA rolled over Washington State. Athletic Director Dan Guerrero said two weeks ago, "There were high expectations. Ben knows that, the coaches know that and the players know that. They have the same expectations. As the season has progressed, there have been ups and downs, but those expectations haven't wavered. We'll see how this plays out."

Dr, good morning!!!! Yeah I don't think that UCLA will ever get over the Wooden years!!! Howland took the Bruins to the Final Four (2006-08) three years in a row. How many Final fours has North Carolina been in, the last 3/4 years???

North Carolina, Duke, Kansas ... they don't fire their coaches very often ... they believe in stability even if they don't win a championship every year. Coaches at those schools have a good track record of recruiting players and retaining them for more than one year. If UCLA wants to be like those programs they need to get off the coaching carousel.

Good point, but how many "good one and two and dones", have UCLA sent to the NBA in the last 4/5 years!!! This will take a toll on any college basketball program. Check out some of the top college basketball (North Carolina) programs and see how many of their players entered the NBA draft early!!!

UCLA was irrelevant in Basketball for 30 years, and Howland took them to 3 final fours. I guess in basketball finishing 4th is something to be celebrated, but it's sure as hell a lot better than they had been doing without him as coach. But fire his ass, and go back to the Lavin years, if there is such a thing as a college basketball fan.
