01:36 PM ET 02.16 | Marco Scutaro signed a three-year, $20 million deal to return to the Giants this past offseason, passing up a better deal to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals, after seeing Scutaro scorch them in the NLCS by hitting a lights-out .500 in seven games, tried their best to bring in the veteran second baseman, who came out of nowhere to play a pivotal role in the Giants' World Series run. Even Matt Holliday, the man who took out Scutaro with a hard slide into second base, tried to recruit him. "I got a text from him, and from another player," said Scutaro. "It was here or St. Louis -- two very good teams with a chance to win. I can't say anything bad about that team. They were very professional."

I'm glad he stayed with the Giants. Can't have too many gritty players who come to the ballpark every day ready to put it all out there on the field.

He's a gamer, no doubt.

matt holliday is dirty. He plays the game without respect. Marco Scutaro is too smart for holliday to have any effect on him.

At his age and a three year deal the Cards will be better off down the road putting their money in a different direction.

If you really knew the rules of the game 5x you would not make such a statement about Holiday. Question to you sir, was he ejected form the game, was he suspended by MLB for that slide.

While I don't believe Holliday is a dirty player, that was a cheap slide. You could easily end a guys career with a play like that. IMO it should have resulted in some kind of fine.

I like Scutaro too but his base running gaffes drive me crazy.

I agree Willie. I was hoping that the Cards could lure him, but I'm glad to see a guy stay loyal to his team and stay put for a little less money.

I don't think that is true of Holliday at all, and I don't think there are very many people in baseball that would agree with that. Yes, he slid too late on that play with Scutaro, but to say Matt Holliday plays the game without respect because of one play is silly.

that's ridiculous money for an aging 2B, who "turned it on" in a contract year.
