08:35 AM ET 02.17 | Jason Hanson spent an hour and a half signing autographs for well-wishing fans today, and whenever someone asked the Lions' 42-year-old kicker about his future he gave a non-committal response. Hanson, the NFL's oldest player last year, said he still hasn't decided if he wants to return for a 22nd season, though he knows he needs to soon. Hanson made 32 of 36 field goals last year, but said late in the season he was contemplating retirement. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in March, and Lions president Tom Lewand said Friday he's been in contact with Hanson's agent but "we haven't come to any agreement about a contract going forward."

If he still can get the kickoffs in the end zone most of the time he will be back, and another good thing for him is, he gets to kick indoors 9 games a year at least.

David Akers was a 71% kicker in 2012.

Jason Hanson was a 89% kicker in 2012.

Akers missed 4 attempts inside of 40 yards - Hanson missed none.

He should come back. Even at his age, he's better than 2/3 of the kickers half his age. Even though I don't like him because he kicks against my Packers, he's won many games for them and always has seemed like a high class dude.

Hard to believe... But since 1980 the Lions have had two primary kickers - Eddie Murray and Jason Hanson. Add in the run Errol Mann had with them and that's one position they haven't had to worry about in a long time.
