10:55 AM ET 02.17 | Penn State University says it has now spent more than $27.6 million in costs related to the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. The university has posted an update of the costs on its website. The spending covers legal fees and consulting bills through Nov. 30. It does not include Penn State's $60 million fine to the NCAA. The costs will continue to grow. Penn State is in the midst of complicated and delicate negotiations of civil suits related to Sandusky. The university has received settlement proposals in some cases, and legal analysts have said they expect Penn State will do whatever is possible to resolve the suits outside of a courtroom.

You are so right. Why is Penn State even worry about the money that will be coming out of their pockets??? No amount of money can help these damaged kids that Sandusky abused!!!! The bottomline is that Penn State knew, what Sandusky was doing to these kids and the University still let this "sicko" have a office and shower with kids on campus, even after he was relieved of his coaching duities!!!! I would still like to know what Paterno knew about Sandusky??? Maybe one of these days a former coach will have the gonads to step forward and tell what Joe really knew!!! I still stand by my statement, that it was pretty hard for Joe to work along side of Sandusky and not no what kind of man he was. Someone besides Mike McCreary, had to see Sandusky showering with these boys.

Agree with The Oldtimer.. did you read the article??.. it was all about the 'costs'..

Penn State University says it has now spent more than $27.6 million in costs related to the sex abuse scandal. is in the midst of complicated and delicate negotiations of civil suits. The university has posted an update of the costs on its website. The costs will continue to grow.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the word 'worried'.. guess I should have the words such as.. 'pissed off'.. since they're having to pay the costs & fines .. if it was left up to Penn State officials.. they wouldn't have to pay 'anything' and nothing that went on would have been known cause tthey would have tried like hell to keep it quiet

I hope all other institutions are learning from this horrible mess......this dollar loss and the emotional trauma & damages to so many people were all stoppable early on.

You don't save anything by turning a blind eye to things.....it all comes out in the end and makes everything much worse than if was stopped as soon as discovered.

Good comment, I just wished it "was" stopped, as soon as it was first discovered.

Just think if Mike McCreary wouldn't have spoken out about Sandusky??? Yes maybe McCreary didn't do enough the day he saw Sabndusky in the shower, I would have beaten the holy crap out of Sanducky right on the spot.

What do you know about Penn State? You only know what the media feeds you. Another mindless lemming who relies on the media to think for you.

Because the article says they posted legal costs on a website then you conclude that they are only worried about money? There are many many things posted on their website. For example:

Freeh investigation findings used to improve Penn State operations
Penn State Trustees to undertake governance review
Penn State takes action to exceed Clery Act requirements

Anyone can go to the website and read the hundreds of things posted there. An intelligent person might draw the conclusion that they are worried about many many topics related to this scandal of which the legal fees accrued so far are only one. But if you head into it with your mind already made up (thanks to your sole reliance on the media) then you will conclude what you want to conclude.

i know they allowed little boys to be raped in their locker room

Sadly, that appears to be true. However, it does not mean that most with ties to Penn State are not sympathetic to those boys and sick about what happened to them. Punish those who are guilty but don't paint the entire university as accomplices to this hideous crime.

anyone who still supports penn state is no different than any catholic, you support the rape of young boys... there are no 2 ways around it

Interesting analogy, but its not this black and white.

I disagree but now I see why you get your opinions from headlines. You are not equipped for more than that. Carry on. Peace out.
