08:11 AM ET 02.18 | At one point in the mix to start on Opening Day, Matt Garza's spring took a turn in the wrong direction on Sunday. Throwing his first live batting practice session of the spring Sunday, the power-pitching right-hander got halfway through his schedule before a twinge in his left lat muscle sent him back to the clubhouse escorted by the team trainer. Manager Dale Sveum called it a "mild lat strain." "Well, I've had better days," said Garza, who is to be examined again Monday before the team expects to have a better prognosis. "It's not as bad as I thought, so that's good. And my arm felt fine, so I was pretty pumped about that. The ball felt good coming out of my hand, and I think that's what I'm most upset about. But it shouldn't be a big thing."

Attention Dirty Little Fantasy League Team Owners:

The site is paid for and I've sent PayPal requests for league dues to the email addresses you have listed on the CBS site.

I don't have time to chase you folks down for payment this year so I'm doing things a little differently. If payment hasn't been recieved by the end of the day on Sunday, February 24th, your spot will be offered to everyone on the waiting list and the first person to pay gets it.

If you see or have any contact with any of the other team owners, please make sure they're aware of this.

Thanks.

I guess you should have Dumpster him when you had the chance Theo. Good to see you haven't lost your touch.

When did he ever have the chance? He went down well before the deadline

There were plenty of teams who wanted Matt last winter. Theo held firmly that he would not trade him. He would have brought back a decent haul to begin the rebuilding process.

QUOTE(#9):

Maybe, buts that's easier said than done. Their rotation was already thin back then. They had to give the fans something. Plus there was no way to foresee that he would be unavailable to trade at the next years deadline. He has not had any real injuries before that

True, but I would have traded him. With 2 years still left on his contract, his value was at it's highest. They were not going anywhere with him or without him, and that deal could have gone a long way towards the rebuilding process. As far as the fans go, they are like Boston, they will flock to the ballpark anyway.

QUOTE(#11):

Cut him some slack. He had just gotten the job. He may have been a little gun shy to start out with. He probably didn't want to alienate the fanbase right from the start. He had to ease into things. If Garza hadn't unexpectedly become injured, they would have got a decent haul for him at the deadline. Who knew?

With all the crap those fans have had to deal with over the last 100 plus years, I really doubt that trading Garza, a player whom they really had no emotional ties to, would have alienated them that much. He had a chance to come in and put his stamp on that franchise, and he missed the boat.

I think they should sign Kyle Lohse.

Apparently everything.

wiseup: another fragile pitcher getting injured. At least this injury was baseball related. These pitchers seemed to be so fragile. A pitcher got hurt throwing batting practice.wasn't like he was trying to strike anybody out.
