No chance Ellsbury sticks with Boston

08:14 AM ET 02.18 | Is it a safe bet? Jacoby Ellsbury is the greatest flight risk in the history of baseball. There is no way he will be playing for the Red Sox next spring. I'd bet my hair on it. I tell him so in the clubhouse at JetBlue Park. "Everybody knows you are gone," I say. "If you're still here next year, I'll shave my head." "Go for it," says Ellsbury. No problem. My hair is safe. Like everybody else around here, I know there is no chance Ellsbury will be with the Red Sox next year. Nothing wrong with that. It's just a fact. Ellsbury is polite, but he's weary of the contract question. It must be weird to go into a season when you know ... and your teammates know ... and all of the fans know that you are gone at the end of the year.

Well, if he doesn't play anymore or any better than he did in 2012 and 2010, then he may not have that many options next year. He turns 30 this September. If he stays healthy, fine, if not?

The article sounds like an old NWA promotion, hair versus contact match next season.

Attention Dirty Little Fantasy League Team Owners:
The site is paid for and I've sent PayPal requests for league dues to the email addresses you have listed on the CBS site.
I don't have time to chase you folks down for payment this year so I'm doing things a little differently. If payment hasn't been recieved by the end of the day on Sunday, February 24th, your spot will be offered to everyone on the waiting list and the first person to pay gets it.
If you see or have any contact with any of the other team owners, please make sure they're aware of this.
Thanks.

He's going to have to prove he can stay healthy before he can cash in on a fat contract. He's only had one exceptional season.

Boston knew this 2 years ago when he turned down a extension. Which is why he shouldn't even be here now. They should have traded him for pitching right after his career year in 2011, when his value was at it's highest.

Somebody is going to look at this situation and think he's worth the risk. Which he would be for team that's invested nothing so far. As for Boston, there comes a time when you just want to cut your losses and move ahead.

Here is something I never thought I'd ever say or write...Dan Shaughnessy is correct. If Ellsbury plays well, and stays healthy, he'll be gone by or at the trade deadline. If he has a crap season, or gets hurt yet again, he goes to the highest bidder next offseason. No way he's with the club next year.

injuries had been his best refferences about his poor stats,,no team should sign him for no more than a one year deal,,why?? too many injuries in his weak ans fragil body!!!

Much as it pains me, I'd have to agree with the CHB assessment.

No big deal if he does leave, as they have Jackie Bradley waiting for the call up. I'd just like to see the Red Sox get some kind of return for him before he does depart for good.

The kid, no longer a kid at almost 30, has had one exceptional year, 2011, in his Bosox career.
He has talent, but is brittle or fragile, and not a clubhouse leader. Plus, he has Boras as an agent, toxic!
So, let him perform well up to trade deadline and then get something for him from a contending team that's needs his skills.
If he doesn't perform, then tender him and see what happens if another team signs him and the Sox get a compensatory high draft pick.
Either way, he's gone, but with bennies for the home team.
