08:18 AM ET 02.18 | A month away from Selection Sunday, college basketball has more questions than answers. But the biggest question could be whether last season's champs, Kentucky, will even get invited to the Big Dance. The 'Cats were unceremoniously pushed off the bubble after 6-11 freshman center Nerlens Noel -- projected as the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft -- was lost for the season after tearing his left ACL on Tuesday. ... Noel was one of four blue-chip recruits to grace a starting lineup that has five new faces. He is a fabulous talent and was emerging as the catalyst on this team. So before you do what you always do and automatically move Kentucky into the Sweet 16, make sure they are actually in the bracket.

**** Cal threw a couple of his players under the bus this weekend ... said they were "uncoachable".

February 18, 2013  08:56 AM ET

Right. 4 blue chippers, and the team sucks. Way to go, Cal.

If the kids are prima-donnas and think they are too good to be coached, doesn't matter if they are 4's or 5's, they aren't going to win. See Texas 3 years ago.

And if the kids aren't going to be coached, just waiting for the one year to end so they can go pro, then Calipari has the right to call them out.

Wasn't there an article a couple of days ago about Ben Howland at UCLA being on the hot seat, for not winning enough games!!!! Is Cal on the "hot seat"???

February 18, 2013  09:53 AM ET

One and dones. That's why it really isn't the defending NC.

JK, you hit the nail right on the head??? The "one and two and dones" are killing college basketball!!! For example, UCLA lost Love, Westbrook and Jrue Holiday in 2008/2009. Love and Westbrook are all star and Holiday, has a 19.0 PPG and a 8.9 APG this year!!!

You get what you recruit coach!

I wouldn't say Cal is on the hot seat. If he is, these guys are idiots in the sense that you have to embrace the college basketball paradigm. Cal is going to get blue chippers and no one can expect him to make them NBA ready in 1 year every time, or champions every time.

I agree!!! Cal is a good coach and will continue to get top recruits!!! I was just surprised by the Ben Howland article the other day. It seems that most fans think that if their favorite college team don't go to the final four every year, then they want to replace their coach!!!

Gee, do you think any of those players' high school coaches didn't tell him that?

You get what you pay for. At least he did at Memphis.

Consider The Source - wouldn't you need a coach to determine coachability?

He's ticked that his ghost written motivational books will be removed from the 90% Off rack.

Give the devil his due though, he did turn sleazy into a paradigm.

You'd have to catch him first. He skitters pretty quick when the lights go on.

Running out of magic for coach Cal and the Cats.

Amazing how the haters are out in full force now that UK is down. Granted this team isn't what the last few years have but not always gonna see the team come together and pan out at the level UK has become used to. The funny thing UK is like everyone else this year. Enjoy it while you can. It could be ugly next year what UK could do.
